Surrounded by art galleries and upscale shops in the lively Union Square district, this genteel hotel dating from 1908 is a 5-minute walk from a BART station and 12 minutes' walk from conventions at the Moscone Center. Low-key rooms with classic furnishings offer flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, plus minifridges and coffeemakers. Some rooms have balconies with city views. Suites add living areas; 1 has a private rooftop terrace. Room service is available. There's an elegant restaurant serving steaks and seafood.
